RedefiningSound installation at Malta BiennaleMarch – May 2026
Presented as part of the exhibition “Redefining. Polish-Ghanaian Textile Narratives”, curated by Natalia Bradbury, the sound installation formed an integral sonic layer within the Polish Pavilion at Malta Biennale 2026. The exhibition brought together large-scale textile works by Marta Nadolle and Eliza Proszczuk (Poland) and Ernestina Mansa Doku (Ghana), exploring themes of cultural exchange, material memory, and collective identity.
The sound composition, developed by Mariusz Szypura, functioned as an immersive auditory environment that interacted with the spatial presence of the textile installations. The audio unfolded as a fluid, spatial structure—subtle, textural, and continuously evolving—responding to the physicality and rhythm of the fabrics. It created a meditative yet dynamic field in which sound and material coexisted, reinforcing the exhibition’s conceptual framework rooted in the philosophy of Ubuntu—“I am because we are.”
The Polish Pavilion was awarded the Golden Falcon for Best Pavilion at Malta Biennale 2026, recognizing the exhibition’s powerful integration of visual and sonic languages and its exploration of transnational narratives.
